As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, there are many opportunities to recognize the individuals and stories that shaped our nation and communities. In partnership with Dress for Success Luzerne County and America250PA, this online exhibit shares a glimpse of some of the women who made a difference in Luzerne County - each in their own way - and helped shape the area we live in today.
Each of the women selected represents unique contributions: some were trailblazers, carving paths for future women to follow their lead; some were led by calls of service to others, uplifting entire groups of their neighbors through their efforts; and some quietly contributed to their communities in the background, but left lasting impacts on the lives they touched.
The legacy of this partnership with Dress for Success Luzerne County and America250PA will continue even after the celebrations of America’s Semiquincentennial have concluded. This exhibit will remain an addition to the online collections of the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society and each year, additional women will be selected and announced at Dress for Success Luzerne County’s annual International Women’s Day event in March.
